Team story
Origins
At the Nürburgring in 1952, Karl-Günther Bechem appeared under the name Bernhard Nacke. The single-seater was a Holbein HH48 with a BMW engine. The Nacke label retained by the archive comes from that entry: it must not be turned into an independent car manufacturer with its own founder and factory.
The Formula 1 journey
Bechem started the German Grand Prix, but an ignition problem ended his race after five laps. This is the entry’s only World Championship appearance. It was a retirement, without points.
Historical timeline
Three chapters in the story of Nacke
Three episodes to revisit the people, cars and races that shaped this journey.
First appearance · German Grand Prix
Karl-Günther Bechem · German Grand Prix 1952. The recorded outcome is DNF. This is the first recorded race start, or the first entry if the team never started a race.
Sporting landmark · Nacke
No classified race result is documented for this part of Nacke’s record. The entries and cars listed elsewhere on the page provide the available reference points; they should not be read as completed races.
Latest recorded appearance · German Grand Prix
Karl-Günther Bechem · German Grand Prix 1952. The recorded outcome is DNF. This is the last race start attributed to this constructor in the archive, not necessarily the end of the organisation behind it.
A distinctive way of racing
The HH48 belonged to the post-war German initiatives built around BMW mechanical components. In 1952 the World Championship ran under Formula 2 rules, allowing these local programmes to encounter Ferrari and the other international constructors on their home circuit. Nacke and Holbein indicate different roles in the same appearance.
What remains
This episode connects the return of German competition with Bechem’s real name and an existing chassis. No international season followed under the Nacke name. It remains a case of an entry designation becoming an archive entry, to be read alongside the HH48 rather than as a second, independent industrial history.
