Team story
Origins
Guido Forti brought a team developed in Formula 3 and Formula 3000 into the 1995 championship. Pedro Diniz and Roberto Moreno drove the yellow FG01, while backing associated with Diniz made the step up possible. Its first race was in Brazil: experience in the junior categories did not immediately translate into speed against the other Formula 1 cars.
The Formula 1 journey
Diniz is listed seventh at Adelaide in 1995, one place outside the points: it was Forti's best result. His move to Ligier removed resources from the 1996 programme. Luca Badoer and Andrea Montermini began with the FG01B and switched to the FG03 during the season.
The new 107 per cent rule made failures to qualify an additional constraint.
Historical timeline
Three chapters in the story of Forti
Three episodes to revisit the people, cars and races that shaped this journey.
First appearance · Brazilian Grand Prix
Pedro Diniz · Brazilian Grand Prix 1995. The recorded position is P10; this number alone does not show whether the driver completed the race distance. This is the first recorded race start, or the first entry if the team never started a race.
Sporting landmark · Australian Grand Prix
Pedro Diniz · Australian Grand Prix 1995. The recorded position is P7; this number alone does not show whether the driver completed the race distance. This marks the first win or podium where one exists, otherwise the highest recorded placing for this constructor.
Latest recorded appearance · French Grand Prix
Andrea Montermini · French Grand Prix 1996. The recorded outcome is DNF. This is the last race start attributed to this constructor in the archive, not necessarily the end of the organisation behind it.
A distinctive way of racing
The FG03 was a genuine attempt to replace the heavy, uncompetitive earlier car, not simply a livery change. Shannon Racing's arrival instead brought green and white colours and a dispute over control and funding of the team. Technical improvement thus became entangled with an ownership change that did not guarantee continued operations.
What remains
The final start came in France in 1996; subsequent attempts did not bring Forti back into a race. The team left the championship without points. The case combines two verifiable changes, the loss of Diniz's backing and the late introduction of the FG03: seeing the final green cars is not enough to assume that new ownership had resolved its financial difficulties.
