Team story
Origins
Alpine blue arrived in the World Championship in 2021 through the transformation of the Renault team. The brand founded by Jean Rédélé did not bring a new Dieppe workshop into Formula 1: the racing programme relied on the Enstone organisation and engines from Viry-Châtillon. The A521 made its debut with Esteban Ocon and the returning Fernando Alonso.
The Formula 1 journey
Ocon won in Hungary in the very first year. Alonso contributed by holding off Lewis Hamilton during his recovery drive and returned to the podium in Qatar. In 2022, Alpine took fourth in the Constructors' Championship without a podium.
Pierre Gasly replaced Alonso in 2023: he and Ocon reached the podium at Zandvoort and Monaco respectively. In Brazil in 2024, Ocon finished second and Gasly third.
Historical timeline
Three chapters in the story of Alpine F1 Team
Three episodes to revisit the people, cars and races that shaped this journey.
First appearance · Bahrain Grand Prix
Esteban Ocon · Bahrain Grand Prix 2021. The recorded position is P13; this number alone does not show whether the driver completed the race distance. This is the first recorded race start, or the first entry if the team never started a race.
Sporting landmark · Hungarian Grand Prix
Esteban Ocon · Hungarian Grand Prix 2021. The recorded position is P1; this number alone does not show whether the driver completed the race distance. This marks the first win or podium where one exists, otherwise the highest recorded placing for this constructor.
Latest recorded appearance · Spanish Grand Prix
Pierre Gasly · Spanish Grand Prix 2026. The recorded position is P12; this number alone does not show whether the driver completed the race distance. This is the latest start in the archived snapshot, not the end of the team’s activities.
A distinctive way of racing
The first Alpines combined a British chassis with a French power unit within the Renault group. The A521, A522 and subsequent designations identify seasonal designs, not the number of single-seaters produced. The Brazilian double podium came after a difficult period for the A524 and a management reorganisation, delivering a tangible result distinct from the expectations announced for the programme.
What remains
From the A521 to the A526 of 2026, the Alpine name has given Enstone's story a new identity. Ocon's victory in Hungary and the double podium he and Gasly achieved in Brazil mark its progress. Renault and Benetton's titles, meanwhile, belong to the organisation's previous identities: they are its heritage, not championships won as Alpine.
