Rory Byrne's chassis favoured low mass, a compact rear end and rapid direction changes over the greater power of rival Renault-engined cars. Its behaviour suited Schumacher's precise, aggressive inputs and made the package particularly effective on technical circuits.

The B194 won eight races in a season shaped by tragedy, technical controversy and an exceptionally tense finale. Its title changed Benetton's status and prepared the organisation for the Constructors' crown that followed in 1995.
