Formula 1 last raced on the Nordschleife in 1976. The Grand Prix circuit inaugurated in 1984 opened a different chapter. The comparison concerns two distinct tracks at the same venue, rather than a simple shortening of the old course—an essential distinction when reading the diagrams.
Year1999Memorable racesHerbert gives Stewart its day
The 1999 European Grand Prix repeatedly changed leaders as shifting weather complicated tyre decisions. While favourites lost opportunities through errors and failures, Herbert won for Stewart, with Barrichello third. The result gave Jackie and Paul Stewart’s project its victory before becoming Jaguar. On the Nürburgring Grand Prix circuit, a young team supplied a memorable closing chapter to its brief Formula 1 history.
Year2007Memorable racesWinkelhock leads in his only Grand Prix
Winkelhock’s championship career contains just one Grand Prix, but also laps in the lead. During the chaotic wet opening at the Nürburgring in 2007, the Spyker debutant found himself ahead. Footage of the restart preserves the extraordinary sight of an uncompetitive car leading the field. It did not become a victory. Instead, it remains a reminder that a brief reversal of the normal order can leave a lasting memory without a podium.

Mark Webber earned his first Formula 1 victory for Red Bull at the Nürburgring in 2009. The result belongs to the modern Grand Prix configuration and links the shape shown in the comparison to a specific day in the racing archive.
