Brooks, Gurney and Phil Hill filled the 1959 German Grand Prix podium for Ferrari, with Brooks only 1.9 seconds ahead of Gurney in the final classification. AVUS’s elongated outline is nothing like the Nürburgring normally associated with that period. It is a useful reminder that a Grand Prix name does not always identify one circuit.
