Montjuïc's park roads had hosted racing since the 1930s and alternated the Spanish Grand Prix with Jarama from 1969. Its fast blind crests and inadequate barriers caused growing concern, culminating in the cancellation of Formula 1 racing after 1975.
The 1975 weekend was overshadowed by protests over poorly secured barriers. Rolf Stommelen's car then left the track, killing spectators; the race was stopped early and Jochen Mass received half points for his only F1 victory.
Across 3.791 km, its 18 corners create a distinct rhythm between braking, precision and acceleration. As a street circuit, it asks drivers and teams to adapt setup, tyre management and race strategy to the venue's particular constraints, while its anti-clockwise direction shapes the sequence of its most demanding sectors.
