A loophole beneath the car
The 2009 rules attempted to simplify aerodynamics, but Brawn, Toyota and Williams identified space for a second diffuser channel. On the BGP 001 it worked with a clean upper body, strong mechanical balance and a late Mercedes V8 installation. The result generated decisive rear downforce before rivals could reproduce the concept.
One team, one season, two titles
Jenson Button won six of the first seven Grands Prix and built the advantage that carried him to the Drivers' Championship. Rubens Barrichello added victories in Valencia and Monza, allowing Brawn GP to secure the Constructors' title before the team became Mercedes for 2010.
