Zandvoort opened in 1948 using roads laid through the coastal dunes. The circuit was revised for safety in 1973, shortened and rebuilt in the 1990s, then gained newly banked corners for Formula 1's return in 2021.
James Hunt's 1975 victory was the first for the small Hesketh team. Niki Lauda took his final Formula 1 win in 1985, while the rain-hit 2023 race produced a record number of overtakes and repeated interruptions.
Across 4.259 km, its 14 corners create a distinct rhythm between braking, precision and acceleration. As a permanent racing circuit, it asks drivers and teams to adapt setup, tyre management and race strategy to the venue's particular constraints, while its clockwise direction shapes the sequence of its most demanding sectors.
