Riverside International Raceway opened in California in 1957 and rapidly became an important American road course. It hosted the United States Grand Prix only once, in 1960; the facility later flourished in domestic racing before closing for redevelopment in 1989.
Stirling Moss won the sole Formula 1 race for Lotus, ahead of team-mate Innes Ireland. The season finale attracted a disappointing crowd, helping persuade organisers to move the Grand Prix to Watkins Glen.
