Williams retained a low-drag philosophy but made the floor and rear platform less sensitive than on its predecessor. The car still preferred fast tracks, yet its operating window was wide enough to turn top speed into points rather than isolated qualifying performances.

Alexander Albon used the car's strengths to score regularly and Williams rose to seventh in the standings. The FW45 did not return the team to the podium, but it provided tangible evidence that the latest reconstruction could work.
