The 015 completed Tyrrell's transition from the normally aspirated DFY to Renault turbo power. Its compact proportions and straightforward aerodynamics reflected a team working with fewer resources than the manufacturer-backed leaders.

Martin Brundle and Philippe Streiff regularly brought the car to the finish and scored enough points for seventh place. It was Tyrrell's final turbo car before the team returned to naturally aspirated engines in 1987.
