Toro Rosso deepened its technical partnership with Red Bull by adopting the senior team's gearbox, rear suspension and selected front-suspension components. That stable platform allowed the Honda power unit to become the focus of a more coherent package.

Daniil Kvyat finished third in a chaotic German Grand Prix and Pierre Gasly repeated the result in Brazil after a drag race with Lewis Hamilton. Those podiums delivered sixth in the championship before the team became AlphaTauri.
