For the first time in several seasons Sauber received a current-specification Ferrari power unit and could design the rear of the chassis around it from the outset. A complex front wing and carefully undercut sidepods helped the team recover aerodynamic performance without sacrificing reliability.

Leclerc reached Q3 repeatedly and scored 39 of the team's 48 points, while Marcus Ericsson added steady results. The C37 restored momentum at Hinwil and formed the technical base for the full Alfa Romeo identity introduced the following year.
