The C24 was the first Sauber shaped with sustained use of the team's new Hinwil wind tunnel. Its conventional V10 package prioritised mechanical reliability, while the aerodynamics marked a step toward the infrastructure-led development later expanded by BMW.

Felipe Massa and Jacques Villeneuve scored steadily without reaching the podium. More importantly, the car closed the independent Petronas era and showed BMW the technical foundation it would acquire for its works programme.
