The R.S.20 narrowed the nose and reorganised airflow around the front of the floor, giving the rear of the car a more dependable platform. Progressive updates made it stronger as the shortened season developed rather than tying its performance to one circuit type.

Daniel Ricciardo ended Renault's podium drought at the Nürburgring and added another result at Imola, while Esteban Ocon finished second in Sakhir. The car gave the coming Alpine identity a solid competitive base.
