A car designed around traction

Renault deliberately kept more mass over the rear axle than its rivals. The long titanium gearbox, compact 72-degree V10 and exceptionally stiff rear structure gave the R25 strong traction and stability. Its broad torque curve needed only six gears, while lower fuel and cooling demands helped produce a complete package for a season in which engines had to last two race weekends and one set of tyres had to cover the Grand Prix.

The car that ended an era

Giancarlo Fisichella won the opening race in Australia before Fernando Alonso built his title campaign through seven victories and relentless points finishes. Third place in Brazil made Alonso the youngest World Champion at the time; Renault then secured the Constructors' crown at the finale in China. The R25 ended five consecutive Drivers' and six Constructors' championships for the Ferrari era.
