The RB1 began life as Jaguar's R6 project, but Red Bull simplified its objectives and concentrated on reliability, predictable balance and efficient race execution. The Cosworth V10 was proven rather than exotic, giving the new organisation a stable technical baseline.

David Coulthard scored points on the team's debut and helped establish professional standards around the youthful brand. The RB1 did not win, but it created the operational platform from which Red Bull's later design organisation could grow.
