The 2019 rules simplified the front wing, but Alfa Romeo pursued an aggressive geometry that unloaded the outer elements and redirected airflow around the front tyres. The Ferrari power unit and Sauber-built chassis formed a compact, occasionally very effective midfield package.

Kimi Räikkönen supplied most of the points and Antonio Giovinazzi completed his first full season. Their fourth and fifth places in Brazil produced the team's largest single-race points haul of the modern Alfa Romeo partnership.
